The house is in a neighborhood at the base of the Sun Valley Ski Resort in Ketchum, Idaho. The split level foundation of an existing house was retained, delivering challenges to the layout of the structure and the flow of interior space. With the ski mountain to the South, there is a lot of morning and evening sun. Space conditioning is augmented passively by orienting glazing and thermal mass to the eastern façade. The design style is loosely based on the French country, arched dormers punctuate all but the north facing roofs, bringing in light and opening up dramatic views of the mountain and sky.
