A small site on a wooded hillside with views of San Diego Bay from its higher elevations, prompted the design of a tall house with a small footprint. Usable outdoor yard space was preserved and a small redwood cabin that existed on the site restored for the servicing of outdoor gatherings. The mass of the house was inspired by European hilltowns, with building elements offset and rotated relative to each other, rooftops of lower masses become balconies for floors above.
