Perched on a steep and barren hillside, cantilevered roofs and floor plains visually float above the San Diego Bay and Pacific Ocean, the house commands spectacular views of the same. The owner wanted an open planned, airy, contemporary house. Recalling restaurant designs that Architecture, J. A. had produced in the past, the concept was to downplay the simple but protected entry, but upon entering the residence, the interiors open up to the views. Floor to ceiling glass walls offer panoramic views from every room of the house. A butterfly roof with glazed spine organizes the interior space and completes the daylighting element of the sustainably designed house. The material pallet was limited to Stone, wood and Glass.
